


Salzman was past president of the former Decatur Area Council of Churches and was also very active in Fairview Park Sunday evening services for many years. During his ministry, he was involved with evangelistic work, singing, church youth summer camps and conducted over 1,000įunerals.

Although he retired in 1987, he continued as the pastor of Latham United Methodist for 11 years. United Methodist Church during his last nine years at Third United Methodist Church. He then was assigned to the Decatur Third United Brethren Church, later called Third Evangelical United Brethren Church, then called Third United Methodist Church, from 1953 to 1987. He first served the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Gibson City from 1945-1953. Salzman was ordained in 1945 and served the Lord with 58 years of active ministry. He then attended Bonebrake Seminary, now United Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, and earned a master's of divinity degree there in 1945. Salzman graduated from Bloomington High School, attended Indiana Central, now named Indianapolis University. He married Gale Brown on June 4, 1950, in Bloomington. Son of Arthur and Frances Orville Salzman. Salzman was born June 29, 1917, in Bloomington, the Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the Decatur Lions Foundation. Entombment will be in Star of Hope Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Wednesday at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Church. Thursday at Grace United Methodist church, with the Rev. Orville "Lefty" Salzman, 89, Decatur, passed away Monday (July 3, 2006) at Manor Care Nursing Home, Decatur. Interment was made in the Gibson City Cemetery Sauer, pastor of the Methodist Church of this city. Funeral services were Tuesday June 9 from the Lamb Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Salyards had been a barber here for 28 years until he became ill in November. Of this city, and five brothers and sisters, Arthur, Loyal Sr., Mrs. In August 1924, he was married to Elizabeth Warfield of Cerro Gordo, who survives with two children, Billy and Kay. of Berkeley, California survives from this marriage. He was married to Gladys Bobo, of Paxton, who died in 1918.

He was born 1-12-1898, in Gibson City, a son of Joseph M. Russell Salyards, proprietor of the Salyards Barber Shop, died Saturday (6-6-1942) in the St. Of the United Methodist Church and served as vice president of the church council. He was also a member of the administraive board Saathoff was a member of the Ford County Sheriff's Dept for many years and past president of the St. Board and a member of the Health Improvement Association. at the county level, vice chairman of the Ford County Service Co. He was a member of the advisory committee of the PCA, chairman of the Farmers Home Adm. He received the Progressive Farming Award in 1959. He was a grain farmer and a conservationist. Saathoff farmed near Fithian and moved to rural Gibson City in 1955. His parents, one brother, one sister, one stepsister and a son-in-law preceded him in death. Also surviving are three daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Harlow of Miami, Fla., Nancy Bertram of Portland, Ore., and Robin (Don) Brokate of Mahomet two grandchildren, Kimberly Brokate of Atlanta, Ga., and Travis Brokate of Mahomet one sister, Doreatha Grider of Champaign and one step-brother, Jim Shry of NY. He married Clarine Frerichs 2-20-1949 in Royal. Saathoff was born 3-17-1929 in Champaign County, a son of Onnie and Grace (Fruhling) Saathoff. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Anchor.
